Chillicothe Defeats Miami Trace Behind 12 Three's


Chillicothe knocks down 12 three's to pick up a 9 point victory over Miami Trace in a hard fought contest Friday night at the Panther Pit. 


The three's came early and often for Chillicothe as they knocked down 3-4 in the first quarter for 75% to take a 17-11 lead, Cavalier Senior Chris Postage hit 2 of the 3 three's scoring 6 of the teams first 17 points. Miami Trace kept things close in the first by shooting 50% going 5-10.


The Panthers played Chillicothe close in the second quarter but again Chilli knocked down 2 more three's and were 4-4 from the free throw line to outscore Miami Trace 16-15 to take a 7 point lead into the half, 33-26. Both teams shot the ball extremely well in the first half. Chillicothe was 12-24 including 5-8 from beyond the arc, add in those 4 free throws and they only committed 5 first half turnovers. Miami Trace shot 12-19 for 63% in the half and were 2-4 from beyond the arc, they committed 11 first half turnovers and did not attempt a free throw.


The third quarter was much of the same for the Cavaliers as they buried 3 more three's and it looked like they were going to start to run away with the game as they led by 10 going into the final frame 46-36. But at the start of the fourth quarter Miami Trace came out and went on an 8-0 to cut the Cavs lead to just 2 with approximately 6 minutes to go in the game. Chillicothe Coach Eric Huffer called a time out to break the momentum and it worked for the Cavs. They came out of the timeout and went on a 14-4 and put too much distance between them for the Panthers to come back. Miami Trace did outscore Chillicothe in the final period 17-16 but took the loss, falling in the game 62-53.


Miami Trace 1-12 (0-6) shot the ball extremely well 22-38 for 58% including 5-9 for 56% from beyond the arc. They committed 15 turnovers but only 4 in the second half and were 2-6 from the free throw line. The Panthers were led in scoring by Austin Matthews' 13 points and Kyler Conn's 10.


Chillicothe knocked down 12 three point shots on the night, going 12-24 for 50%, they shot 50% on the night finishing 23-46, they only committed 2 second half turnovers to finish with 7 and they were 4-4 from the free throw line but didn't shoot a single foul shot in the second half.


Chillicothe remains in tie for the league lead with Washington Court House, both teams are currently 5-1 in league play with Washington defeating Hillsboro. Chillicothe moves to 9-4 overall.
