Forget About The Eclipse. Start Worrying About The Killer Asteroid!

Everybody knows that today, many people in America will get to see either a full or partial solar eclipse when the moon floats in front of the sun.

This eclipse might be freaky, but it’ll be harmless.

The same can’t be said for other stuff floating around out there, including a three-mile-wide asteroid named Florence.

NASA says that Florence is the largest asteroid to come near planet Earth since they started tracking this stuff.

On September 1st, it will be just 4.4 million miles from Earth, making it big enough for people to see using a small telescope.

Of course, it’s not expected to crash into us. But the idea that a three-mile-wide hunk of rock is buzzing around out there and even getting close to us feels like something we should worry about. (New Atlas)
