Mary W. Bumgarner

Mary W. Bumgarner, 86, of Wilmington, Ohio died Monday, April 24, 2017, at 5:45 p.m. at Ohio Living Cape May Assisted Living in Wilmington where she had been residing since August 2014.

Mrs. Bumgarner was born September 9, 1930, in Little Cat, KY to Lawrence Paul and Easter Ethel Roberts Woods.  She was a 1948 graduate of New Holland High School and was the 1947 Miss Circleville Pumpkin Show Queen.  She attended Wilmington College where she was a member Delta Omega Theta (Delts) sorority.  She lived most of her life in the Wilmington and Washington Court House communities. 

She was a retired realtor and had formerly worked for Borton-McDermott Realty and Bumgarner Realty in Wilmington and Lewis Century 21 Realty in Washington Court House.

Mrs. Bumgarner had attended several churches including the Wilmington United Methodist Church and the Fayette Bible Church in Washington Court House.  She was currently a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ.  She had been a member and past president of the Wilmington Garden Club, the Clinton County Association of Realtors, the Republican Women’s Club and Brush and Pen.  She also enjoyed several bridge clubs.   She was a founding board member of the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services at Cape May.  In 1947, she was the Miss Circleville Pumpkin Show Queen.

She was the best grandmother who loved being with her grandchildren and taking them places.

Mrs. Bumgarner was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Elsworth Bumgarner on May 16, 2013 and two sons, Glenn Bumgarner in 2003, and Dr. Gary W. Bumgarner in 2016.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Bumgarner VanPelt and her husband, Gary, and Joni Bumgarner Stewart, all of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Rachel (Todd) Taylor of Cincinnati, Christy (Chris) McFadden of Asheville, NC, Jaime (Travis) Hibbs of Wilmington, OH, Tricia (Brian) Edwards of Plain City, Sarah Saunders of Denver, CO, Jessica (Sean) Early of Martinsville, OH, Stephanie (George) Aubin of Hampstead, NC; and Joseph Bumgarner Smith of Wilmington, OH; 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, James L. Woods, Sr. of Columbus, OH, Donald P. Woods of Upper Arlington and Paul W. Woods and his wife, Debbie, of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, May 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 West Locust Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Dale McCamish, minister at the church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bloomingburg Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
