THOMAS DALE HORNEY

 

Thomas Dale Horney, 77, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at Miami Valley South Hospital.  His wife, Dorothy Ann Clouse Horney, preceded him in death April 21, 1989.  They were married November 5, 1961.  Mr. Horney was born April 7, 1939 in Wilmington, Ohio, son of the late Henry Byron Horney and Louise Coffey Horney.  His stepmother, Dorothy Mae Stingley Horney, and his sister, Patsy Martin, also preceded him in death.

During his career, Mr. Horney was as a firefighter with the Clinton County Air Force Base, the Wilmington Fire Department and the WPAFB Fire Dept.  He also taught firefighting at Laurel Oaks Vocational School.  He retired from City of Wilmington Water Department.  Additionally, he had worked as master electrician.

He was a 1957 graduate of Wilmington High School.  Mr. Horney served in Germany and Vietnam with the U.S. Army Rangers.  He also served in U.S. Air Force Reserve.  He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 49 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1224.

Mr. Horney is survived by two sons, Byron Edward (Cheryl) Harrison and Thomas Dale (Beth) Horney Jr.; two grandchildren, James Thomas Harrison and Juliet Ann Harrison; three step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Bailey, Stephen Trimble Jr., and Vincent Fernandez; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Ohio with Neva Storer officiating.  Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 49 Memorial Squad.  Friends may call from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home.
