George H. Upp

GEORGE H. UPP, age 88, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 9:50 a.m. at Mount Carmel West.

He was born on July 22, 1928 on the family farm in Hillsboro, Ohio to Marion C. and Esther Roadcap Upp. He was a 1946 graduate of Hillsboro High School and played football and basketball for the Hillsboro Indians. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Pennington’s Bakery, and then went on to work for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and operated the Eagle Dredge. He also spent time working for Risch’s Pharmacy in Washington CH. He enjoyed mowing grass, fishing, camping, riding snow mobiles, visiting Rocky Fork Lake, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, and most importantly, spending time with his precious great-grandson, Garrett.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marjorie L. Young Upp, whom he married on March 13, 1950; infant son, Steven Wayne Upp; daughter, Susan Cay Johnson; brothers and sister-in-laws, Ralph (Donna) Upp, and Frank (Marjorie) Upp.

Survivors include his daughter, Ellen (Ken) Dolphin; grandsons, Corbin Dolphin, and Christopher (Lucy) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Garrett Dolphin, and Suzie Johnson. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Highlawn Cemetery with Pastor Jay Lucas officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home.
