Harold Lloyd "Biggie" Purdin

Harold Lloyd “Biggie” Purdin, 92 years of Russellville, passed away February 26, 2017 at the University of Cincinnati Hospital. Born June 7, 1924 in Brown County, OH, he was the son of the late John William Purdin and Anna Faye (Reid) Purdin.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ruth “Ginger” Purdin; his son, James Gregory (Jeannette) Jones, Berea, KY; his daughter, Gailanna Garland Purdin, Norwood, OH; three brothers Paul (Zola) Purdin, Georgetown, OH; Gene (Meredith) Purdin, Cincinnati, OH; Gerald Purdin, Cincinnati, OH; two sisters, Florence Crowe, Charlotte, NC; Ruth (Kenneth) Woods, Georgetown, OH; and sister-in-law Kathleen Purdin, Felicity, OH; two grandchildren, Jonathan Grant (Tania) Jones, Georgetown, OH’ Joshua Gordon Jones, Berea, KY; and three great grandchildren, Jackson, Lila Grace, and Ella of Georgetown, OH.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Gordon Jones; one sister, Dorothy Smith; and three brothers, Glenn Purdin; Lowell Purdin and David K. Purdin.

He formerly worked for the Internation Minerals and Chemical Corporation in Kentucky before returning to Ohio to farm the land he loved. He was a life long fan of baseball. He played the game when he was younger, and was a Little League Coach when his sons played the game. He was a faithful fan of the Cincinnati Reds.

He enjoyed hunting, and for over 30 years he went to South Dakota in October to hunt pheasants, At home, he liked to hunt deer with his local and out-of-state friends. Another pleasure he shared with friends was NASCAR racing, and for many years he annually attended the Daytona 500. His fondness for flying was more than just being a passenger. He took flying lessons and did his solo flight form the Aberdeen Airport.

There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends at the Bradford and Sullivan Funeral Home in Winchester, Ohio on Sunday March 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Interment will be at the convince of the family.
