Charlene Fayann Jackson

CHARLENE FAYANN JACKSON quietly and peacefully went to be with Jesus early Saturday morning, February 18, 2017.  She will be deeply missed by all.  She was the loving wife of Robert C. Jackson, for fifty-one years, until his death in 1993.  She was a devoted and loving mother of four children; John R. Jackson of Washington CH, Roberta Patrick, Rita Jackson, and Carolyn Hill all of Columbus.  Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Charles L. Payne and Stella (Newman) Payne, her husband Robert, brothers, Charles, Robert and John Payne, a son-in-law, Johnny Hill and a daughter-in-law, Joy Jackson.

Charlene was an LPN at the former Greenfield Municipal Hospital in Greenfield, Ohio for over 20 years, until her retirement in 1980.  Her duties consisted of, assisting in the OB department and daily patient care.  She loved more than anything else, taking care of newborns.

She was an active member of the Shorter Chapel AME Church in Greenfield.  She was a loyal member, active in the choir.  She graced the church with her talented voice and also sang in the community choir on several occasions.

Charlene was also an active community citizen.  She worked at her local polling precinct for many years and volunteered at the local clothing center.

On a daily basis, in the spring, summer, and fall, you could see Charlene sweeping her sidewalk and yard.  She insisted on a tidy yard and surrounding area.  I am certain the city crews in Greenfield couldn’t account for all the leaves and debris that got into the sewer system.  Oh well…

The family owes a debt of gratitude to her neighbors that helped her in her declining years.  Thank you all very much.

A very, very special thanks goes to all the Staff at Signature Healthcare of Fayette County, where our mother was a resident for the past four years.   To the administration, nurses, STNA’s, maintenance staff, housekeeping, food service, laundry service, and the Therapy department, for their extraordinary efforts, work care, and love that everyone exhibited while helping our mother and making her stay there comfortable and safe.

A very special thank you goes to Jayna, who works in the Therapy department at Signature, she was our mothers’ surrogate daughter.  Thanks to all of our mother’s fellow residents that put up with her (rhythmic tapping).  The family loves you very much.  Thank you.  To the spiritual staff at Signature and Heritage Memorial Church, thank you.

At the request of the family, a private viewing will be observed at the Summers Funeral Home from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 followed by a     public graveside service at the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield at 12:00 p.m. with Devon Davis officiating

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at alzdn.org.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be sent to www.summersfuneralhome.com
