Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey has been named the world's most stressful airport, according to a recent study by Australian travel insurance company iSelect. The study analyzed 50 major airports worldwide, examining factors like average departure delays, canceled flights, security checks, and baggage claim issues. Newark scored an 18.46 out of 100, earning it the top spot on the stress index.

The airport is currently undergoing significant upgrades, including a $3.5 billion AirTrain Newark system to replace the outdated version from 1996. Despite these efforts, Newark Liberty faces ongoing challenges. The study reported an average departure delay of 21.4 minutes and a cancellation rate of 1.43%. Additionally, the airport ranked poorly in check-in and customs experiences, with only 77% and 66% of reviewers rating them favorably, respectively.

Newark's score was closely followed by Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport and Manchester Airport in the United Kingdom, which ranked second and third on the list. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy emphasized the importance of the ongoing redevelopment, stating that modernizing the AirTrain system is part of a commitment to creating a world-class airport.

Meanwhile, Singapore Changi Airport, Doha’s Hamad International Airport, and Seoul's Incheon International Airport were ranked as the least stressful airports in the study, noted for their efficient services and ease of access.
