Protesters chanted slogans and held up signs for racial equality and justice for slain Minneapolis resident George Floyd, during a protest rally held in Washington Court House Tuesday evening.
The group of approximately two dozen people spent a couple of hours in the Fayette County Court House Square, before leaving that vantage point to march around the block near the county jail and city police department.
As the protesters marched, they chanted "No justice, not peace" along with the slogan "I can't breathe". Both of these are among the slogans being chanted by protesters at hundreds of rallies being held across the nation.
"I can't breathe" was among the last words spoken by George Floyd as he was handcuffed face down with a Minneapolis policeman forcing his knee into the back of his neck. An autopsy report showed that was the leading cause of George Floyd's death, leading to the arrest of that policeman and sparking protests around the world.
As of 8pm Tuesday, there had been no reports of any serious problems with the protesters in Washington Court House, although an eyewitness said the group chanted expletives against the police as they marched away from the courthouse square.
