Panthers Lose FAC Opener

Jackson improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in FAC with 55-38 win over Miami Trace Friday night in the League opener for both teams.

Jackson came out hot scoring 22 first quarter points off seven Panther turnovers to take a 22-7 leading into the second quarter.. Miami Trace was able to step up their defense and held the Ironmen to only 12 points in the second but were held to 8 themselves. Miami Trace shot only 20% in the first half on 5-20 shooting and were 0-8 from beyond the arc, Jackson shot 54% in the half on 14-26 shooting and were 4-6 from 3 point range.

Adjustments were made at the half by Panther Coach Pittser and Miami Trace came out to start the third on a 9-0 run, they eventually cut the lead to 9 nine points before Jackson Senior point guard Caleb Wallis took over the game, dribble driving through the entire Panther team scoring 15 points from the four minute mark of the third quarter through the five minute mark of the fourth. Trace did outscore Jackson 16-13 in the third but it was too little too late as Jackson had built a commanding 47-31 lead going into the final frame. The last quarter saw the teams clear their benches and Jackson scored 8 points and Miami Trace dropped 7 to end the game with Jackson on top 55-38.

Miami Trace 1-3 (0-1) was led in scoring by Junior Logan Rogers' 13 points and Trevor Barker added 11. They were the only Panthers in double figures. on the night they shot 15-50 for 30% inside the arc and 2-18 from behind the arc for 12%, they were merely 6-14 from the free throw line and committed 15 turnovers. Miami Trace next faces Waverly Saturday at home.

Jackson 2-0 (1-0) was led in scoring by Caleb Wallis who had 28 points and Braxton Hammond finished with 10. Jackson shot 47% from the field on 23-49 shooting, were 5-13 behind the arc, made 4-4 free throws and also had 15 turnovers. Jackson next plays on Tuesday against McClain who outlasted Washington Court House on Friday.
