If you’re planning on heading out of town for the Fourth of July weekend, prepare yourself for some serious traffic. According toTriple A(AAA) a record 49 million Americans are planning to travel over the holiday weekend, and 41.4 million of those travelers will be traveling by car.
If you're going to be one of those people on the road, here’s what you need to know so you don’t spend your whole vacation stuck in traffic:
- Do not leave on July 3rd: This will be the worst time to travel and your trip will likely take four times longer than you anticipate.
- Get your car checked out by a mechanic before you leave: AAA estimates 367,000 motorists will be stranded with car trouble.
- Don’t plan to head home on the 7th: Leave one day earlier or later so you don’t get stuck in a mess on the drive home.
