McClain Edges WCH in Boys Regular Season Finale

In Buckeye Country 105.5's night cap Saturday night the McClain Tigers pulled out a last minute victory over visiting Washington Court House 39-38 after trailing for three plus quarters.

It was a good one from the beginning as both teams were flying up and down the court and raced out to a 10-10 first quarter tie. The Blue Lions were able to squeak ahead in the second quarter outscoring the Tigers 10-6 to take a four point lead into the half, 20-16.

Neither team shot exceptionally well in the first half, WCH was 8-24 for 30% while McClain was 7-24 for 29%. Each team knocked down two 3-point shots. The Blue Lions had 6 first half turnovers while McClain had 6 but the Blue Lions out rebounded the Tigers 17-10 for the half.

Washington jumped out to a 9-2 run to start the third quarter but McClain scored the final points in the quarter and continued their run into the fourth and eventually outscored the Blue Lions 17-9 in the final frame. McClain took their first lead since the first quarter at the 2:45 of the fourth quarter, from there it went back and forth until the final buzzer.

McClain Senior and first team all FAC Devin Carter came to life in the fourth quarter, he had just 5 first half points but scored 10 in the second half to pace the Tigers, as well as first teamer Dalton Mischal who scored 5 4th quarter points including the game winner. With just 10 seconds to go in the game the Blue Lions had a chance to win but couldn't connect as time expired.

Washington Court House (14-8) shot 16-47 for 34% on the night, committed 16 turnovers and out rebounded McClain 29-23. They were led in scoring by Evan Upthegrove and Garrett Leisure who each had 12. They now move on to the Division II Sectional Tournament against Unioto on Friday, Feb. 22nd at 8:30 p.m. at Southeastern High School. Buckeye Country 105.5FM/iHeartRadio air time will be 8:15.

McClain (15-7) was led on the night by Devin Carter's 15 points and Dalton Mischal's 9. They shot 17-46 for 37%, committed 15 turnovers and pulled down 23 rebounds. McClain also plays next Friday at Southeastern High School in the Sectional Tourney against Waverly at 6:00 p.m.
