Officers with the Washington C.H. Police Department (WPD) and a humane agent with the Fayette Regional Humane Society (FRHS), responded to an apartment on Forest Street, after a kitten was beaten to death.
31-year-old Samual N. Nye and 22-year-old Alex L. Hebb, both of Washington C.H., were transported to the Fayette County Jail where they remain in custody. Nye and Hebb have been charged with Prohibitions Concerning Companion Animals, a first degree misdemeanor. The penalty carries up to a six month jail sentence and a $1,000 fine.
According to reports, the incident occurred during the late hours on Saturday night, where an attempt was made to break the kitten’s neck, then its head was stomped, causing the kitten to die. WPD officers and the humane agent located the kitten in a garbage container behind the residence.
“This was a horrific act of cruelty” said Brad Adams, FRHS chief humane agent “I believe the men are where they belong right now, and that is behind bars. Let this be a clear message that cruel acts toward animals will not be tolerated here.”
Nye and Hebb are scheduled to be arraigned at the Washington C.H. Municipal Court on Wednesday
