Washington Court House cruised to victory Thursday night in the Girls Div. II Sectional Semi's with a 69-31 victory over Hillsboro behind 23 points from Washington Sophomore Shawna Conger.
Tough defense and early buckets set the pace for the Lady Lions as they jumped out to a 17-7 first quarter over Hillsboro and never looked back. The Lady Indians started to cut into the lead in the second quarter but Washington's Shawna Conger took over knocking down five first half three point shots on her way to 21 first half points and a 23 point second quarter for the Lady Lions giving them a commanding 17 point lead at 40-23 entering intermission.
The second half saw Washington Court House's defense turn from good into great as Hillsboro struggled to ball across mid-court. The Lady Lion defense had the Lady Indians off their game all night and were only able to knock down two buckets in the entire second half. The Indians scored six third quarter points and only two fourth quarter points. The Blue Lions forced Hillsboro into 18 second half turnovers and a 13% second half shooting percentage.
Hillsboro (8-16) finished the night shooting 9-26 for 35% but were just 2-15 in the second half, they were 3-12 from beyond the arc, all of which came in the first half, they shot 10-13 from the free throw line and committed 36 turnovers. They were led in scoring by Senior Madi Marsh's 9 points.
The Lady Lions (20-3) finished the night shooting 27-63 from the field for 43% including 7-16 from behind the arc for 44%. They shot 8-13 from the charity stripe, committed 23 turnovers and out rebounded Hillsboro 25-16. Washington was led by Sophomore Shawna Conger's 23 points, Rayana Burns dropped 14 points, Kassidy Hines added 10 and Hannah Haichcock chipped in with 9.
Washington Court House now moves on to play for the Div. II Sectional Championship against Unioto on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. at Adena High School, broadcast start will be immediately after the Miami Trace vs Circleville game which starts at 1:00 p.m. Buckeye Country 105.5FM/iHeartRadio will cover both games.
