Fred O. Cowman

Fred O. Cowman, 93, of Wilmington Ohio passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Ohio Living Cape May.  His wife, Marie Jean Myers Cowman, survives.  They were married September 3, 1944.  Mr. Cowman was born July 8, 1924, son of the late Fred O. Cowman Sr. and Sarah Ruth Patton Cowman.  He was a 1942 graduate of Wilmington High School and served in the U.S Army during World War II under General Patton in the Third Army Division.

Mr. Cowman was a life-long farmer.  Fred O. Cowman worked hard all his life, always believing “In this life, no one fails who gives God their best every day!”  Fred faithfully served God his Father and Jesus his Lord and Savior throughout his entire life as a trustee, staff parish committee member, usher, and administrative council member in the Wilmington United Methodist Church.  He also faithfully served in the community.  He had been a member of the Producers Livestock Association Board, the Clinton Landmark Association Board, and was a Clinton Memorial Hospital board member for 12 years.  He was on the Federal Land Bank board from 1974 – 1986 and the Farm Credit Services Board in Louisville Mid-America from 1986 – 1992.  He was a Green Township trustee from 1973 – 1997.  He was a past president of the Clinton County Cattle Feeders Association and a past president of the Clinton County Township Trustees Organization.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cowman is survived by two sons, Mike F. (Judy) Cowman of Wilmington, Ohio and Mark F. (Susanne) Cowman of Wilmington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jennifer Cowman of Columbus, Ohio, Justin Cowman of Wilmington, Ohio, Lauren (Jaytee) Swanson of Troy, Ohio, and Chris Cowman of Wilmington, Ohio; and nieces and nephews, John & Nancy Williams of Wilmington, Ohio, Phyllis & Don Chaffee of Maine, and Eddie & Darlene Steele of South Carolina.  In addition to his parents, a brother, Lowell A. Cowman, and two sisters, Margery Williams and Mildred Steele, are preceded in death.

Friends may call from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 50 E. Locust Street, Wilmington, OH.  The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the church with Rev. Marie Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 49 Honor Guard.  Mike Cowman, Mark Cowman, Justin Cowman, Chris Cowman, Jaytee Swanson, Mark Lane, Pat Haley, Bill Lankswhert, and Ron Ratliff will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Hoschar and Shane Hoschar (posthumously).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 50 E. Locust St., Wilmington, OH 45177.
