Richard D. "Dick" Spinks

Richard D. "Dick" Spinks, age 96 , of Wilmington, OH, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Chilicothe VA Medical Center.  

 

 He was born May 3, 1921 in Highland County, OH, son of the late Leroy Cleveland Spinks and Wyoma Jane Shaw Spinks.

 

 Mr. Spinks was a Life Member of the Wilmington Masonic lodge #52 F&AM; The Valley of Cincinnnati Scottish Rite; Disabled American Veterans, Wilmington American Legion Post #49, and the Wilmington Eagles #1224. Dick was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WWII.

 

 Surviving is his son, Roger D. (Jacqueline) Spinks of Xenia, OH, three grandchildren, Chad C. (Christy) Spinks, Courtney A. Spinks, Casey D. (Stephanie) Spinks and a great grandson, Carson O. Spinks. Also surviving is his only sister Mary Jane (Ray) DeLisle and several nieces & nephews.

 

In addition to his parents,  Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sylvia R. Spinks, who passed away in 2005 and was married to her for 60 years. Three brothers, James Spinks, William Spinks, and Floyd Spinks, sister, Alberta Spinks, sister-in-law, Pauline Spinks, two sons, William Irwin and Charles Richard Spinks.

Richard was baptized in 1958 and was a member of the Church of Christ in Wilmington. After coming out of the service Richard worked at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a highly skilled machinist and model maker for over 30 years and then retired. After retiring from the base he established his own Lawn Mower Repair business which he continued to do almost to his death. His passions were bowling which he did for over 50 years and listening to and watching the Cincinnati Reds. He also did many other jobs and always loved keeping occupied by working and meeting people.

 

 Services will be held at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 10, 2018  at 1:00 p.m.  with Pastors Stephen Wetterhan and Allen Willoughby officiating. Masonic and Scottish Rite Ring services will be held at the beginning of the service.  Interment will follow in the Sugartree Ridge Cemetery, Sugartree Ridge, OH where full military honors will be conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.

 

 Friends will be received at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home on Wednesday, 11:00 am - 1:00pm.               .
