Dorothy V. "Dot" Hayes

Dorothy V. “Dot” Hayes, 97, passed away 8:06 PM, Tuesday, December 5, 2017.  She had been a resident of Ohio Living Cape May for the last 10 years.  She was born December 13, 1919 in Randolph County, Indiana, daughter of the late Roy Victor Hayes and Leatha Myrtle McClellan Hayes.

Dot graduated from Markleville High School in Indiana and received a bachelor’s of theology degree from God’s Bible College in Cincinnati.  After serving as a missionary in Nigeria for five years, she received a bachelor’s of science in education from Bethel College and a master’s in education from the University of Cincinnati.  She retired after teaching for 30 years.  During her career, Dot taught 10 years in Dayton, 5 years in Cincinnati, and 15 years in Springboro.  She was a member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church and was a volunteer in the cardiac rehabilitation unit at Clinton Memorial Hospital and for the Clinton County Leadership Institute.  Dot loved to tell stories, especially of her experiences in Africa.

Dot is survived by her sisters, Ruth Hayes of Wilmington, OH and Mary M. (Bernie) Dorsey of Chandler, AZ; a sister-in-law, Rose Hayes of Peoria, AZ; four nieces, Becky Anders of Phoenix, AZ, Teressa Gerber of Moses Lake, WA, Sandy Gerber of Dallas, TX, Heather Kringen of Phoenix, AZ; a nephew, Brad Dorsey of Phoenix, AZ; great nieces, Holly Asmussen, Tiffany Summers, Jillian Hatch, Paige Kringen, and Lexi Kringen; great nephews, Nathan Gerber, Ryan Vanderpool, and Brandon Dorsey; two great-great nieces; five great-great nephews; and three cousins.  In addition to her parents, a sister, Jama J. Hayes, and a brother, John V. Hayes, are preceded in death.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 50 E. Locust S., Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Marie Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.  Friends may call from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church.
