Last week at Atlee High School in Richmond, Virginia, the Friday night lights were on high school senior Sepp Shirley, who scored an 80-yard touchdown. But Sepp’s run was more significant than most.
You see, Sepp was born with cerebral palsy, and relies on crutches to walk much of the time. But last Friday night, coach Matt Gray put Sepp in the game.
Gray let the referees and the opposing team’s coach Stu Brown know that Sepp was taking the field.
Sepp received the hand-off and players on both teams cheered him on as he ran 80 yards down the field for the touchdown.
"We learned more from him than what anyone thought we gave him," Coach Brown told Richmond.com. "The definition of physical and mental toughness is Sepp marching 80 yards. It's the toughest 80-yard run I've ever witnessed. I'll tell you that."
