JANET LOUISE ALKIRE, age 81, of Washington CH, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at her home.
She was born on February 23, 1936 in Fayette County to Walter and Louise Duncan Tolle. Janet retired as a nursing assistant from Carlton Manor in 1997. She and her husband, Gail, owned and operated Jan and Gail’s Restaurant in Mt. Sterling for several years. She enjoyed going to yard sales with her sister, talking on the telephone, and being with her family and grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, George Penwell; her husband, Gail Alkire; the father of her children, Charles Cassidy; and siblings, Donna Lindsey, Mary Kingery, and Bob Tolle.
Survivors include her children, Sandra (Jake Climer) Campbell, Karen (John Somerville) Showers, David (Karen) Cassidy, and Debbie Hyer; grandchildren, Nicona (Chris) Gamm, Paige Dissinger, Jenna (Chase) Thompson, Heath Cassidy, and Zurick and Korben Hyer; great-grandson, Dillon Gamm; siblings, Steve (Virginia) Tolle, Carol (Buck) Jones, Evelyn Brightman, and George Alan Penwell; brother-in-law, Buck Kingery; and special friends and second daughter’s, Rhonda Joseph Showalter and Michelle Cregan Mason. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Brooke Cregan, Jeff Mason, Tracey Powell, Whitney Pennington, and the staff at Heartland Hospice for the care they provided to their mother. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends that she loved very much.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Duvall officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
