Dick Sheley

Dick Sheley, age 85, of Lees Creek, passed at home on Friday, October 20, 2017.

Born December 26, 1931, he was the son of Hubert and Garnet ‘Bandy’ Sheley.

Dick worked at NCR Dayton and was a passionate Quarter Horse trainer. He also showed and judged horses, and was the Ring Manager at the Quarter Horse Congress for many years.  Dick was a member of the ProTour Hall of Fame and was an instructor, for over 40 years, at the Boone-Campbell County 4-H Horse Camp.  Dick was instrumental in designing the ‘Dick Sheley’ saddle.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Lee Anne (Lee) Layman, of Sabina and JoLynn (John) Handel of Dry Ridge, KY.  Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Hayden, Holten, Halena, Judson and Shepard; brother, Tom Sheley, of Sabina; nieces, Cynthia Saylor and Claudia Hayes; and nephews, Billy and Noel Bean.

In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Bean, and a brother, Arthur Sheley.

A graveside service will be held at 4pm on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Milledgeville Plymouth Cemetery.  Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, has been entrusted with arrangements.
