JOHN JAY POPLIN, age 40, of Washington CH, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 5:50 a.m. at his home.
He was born on February 16, 1977 in Fayette County to Steven Poplin and Mary Thacker Lynch. John was self-employed as a painter and carpenter. He loved music, playing the guitar and the piano, singing, and he also enjoyed the great outdoors.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Poplin, and Cecil and Dorothy Thacker.
Survivors include his parents, Steven Poplin of Tennessee, and Mary (Ray) Lynch of Bloomingburg; his children, Jonathon Shaffer and Steven Poplin of Sabina, and Travis and McKenzie Thompson of Willard, Ohio; siblings, Mark (Gwen) Poplin, Matthew Brown, Christopher Brown and his significant other, Jill Thatcher, and long time friend, Kathy Runnels; mother of his children, Heather Shaffer; and his special parents, LeRoy and Arlene Shaffer of Sabina.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Phil Gantz officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. In keeping with his family’s wishes, cremation will take place after the service.
