SSCC To Host Healthcare Simulation Open House

In recognition of National Healthcare Simulation Week, Southern State Community College will host a Sim Lab Open House 1pm-4pm on September 13th, in Room 183 of the college's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

Those interested in health sciences education are invited to join us for demonstrations, information, and light refreshments. The college recently was awarded funds to purchase additional equipment for its onsite Reed Simulation Lab, including a high-fidelity human patient simulator, monitor-defibrillator, and intravenous infusion pump. The additional equipment complements the full-service lab utilized by the college's health sciences students, and is available for rental by local healthcare providers.

“The addition of the mobile simulation lab equipment allows us to expand our simulation capabilities beyond our campuses,” said Bruce Fugate, SSCC Associate Professor and Simulation Lab Director. “Community partners may arrange for use of the simulator at what we consider to be very reasonable rates.”Purchase of the mobile simulation lab equipment was made possible through a RAPIDS Grant.

The Ohio Department of Higher Education awards Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills (RAPIDS) grants in an effort to make regionally strategic investments in education equipment, as well as co-op and internship programs. “The new mobile simulation lab equipment would not have been attainable without the written support from our local healthcare providers,” said Amy McClellan, SSCC Coordinator of Academic Partnerships. “It is our hope and purpose that we will be able to make this equipment available to train the area's local healthcare providers, but also train our students to be successful in the field.”
