The Washington Court House Blue Lions rolled to a week one victory over the Blanchester Wildcats Friday night by a score of 42-26.
The game started off a little sloppy as both teams had turnovers on their first possessions, then traded touchdowns and ended the first quarter with the Blue Lions leading 14-12. Blue Lions quarterback Dillon Steward had 160 yards rushing in the first quarter and scored both Blue Lion touchdowns. The second quarter saw Steward do damage with his arm as he ended the half passing for 155 yards on 6-11 and 3 touchdowns. Steward was helped out by his vast array of wide receivers as Eli lynch made 2 incredible first half catches and picked up 2 td's in the half, Eli Ruth also caught a first half touchdown. Washington ended the first half with 336 total yards and 7 first downs, they did have 6 penalties for 60 yards.
Blanchester finished the first half with 166 total yards and scored their 12 points off a turnover and returned a kick off for a td.
Washington Court House came out in the second half and scored four straight touchdowns to take a commanding 42-12 lead. Coach Williamson pulled his starters in the 4th quarter and Blanchester was able to go 70 yards on a fake punt to cut into the lead 42-19 and added a score at the end of the game to make the game seem closer than it actually was.
Dillon Steward finished the night with 11 carries for a game high 168 yards and two touchdowns, he threw for 259 yards on 13-22 passing with 4 touchdowns. Wide receiver Eli Lynch smoked the defense catching 6 passes for 119 yards and three scores, Eli Ruth had 2 catches and a touchdown and Caleb Rice had two catches for 80 yards and both were diving over the shoulder catches.
The Blue Lion defense gave up 395 total yards, 250 on the ground and 145 through the air. Washington had 12 penalties for 160 yards and committed 2 turnovers.
Washington is on the road next week taking on Circleville, a team that beat Miami Trace on Friday by a score of 42-14.
