Robert Decker, 75, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at his residence. His wife, Brenda A. Whitten Decker, survives. They were married July 2, 1960. Mr. Decker was born January 10, 1942 in Canton, Ohio, son of the late Lawrence and Florence Decker. He was a graduate of Hoover High School in North Canton.
Mr. Decker served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force for 37 years. After retiring from the military, he was the groundskeeper for the Elks golf course in Wilmington. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks 797, the American Legion Post 49, and the AMVETS in Mount Dora, Florida. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, boating, hunting, shuffling, and spending time with friends and family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Decker is survived by two daughters, Deborah (David) Cox of Wilmington, Ohio and Donna (Jason Nichols) Decker of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Michael (Kathy) Decker of Wilmington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kelly Decker, Kristina (fiancé, Evan Hilderbrandt) Decker, Ryan (Megan) Thompson, and Elizabeth (Andy) Holmes; two great grandchildren, Ava Thompson and Gabby Thompson; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, two brothers and two sisters are preceded in death.
Friends may call from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 19, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Sugar Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 49 Memorial Squad.
