SHELVEN JEAN BUTCHER, age 78, of Washington CH, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 7:47 a.m. at the Fayette County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on September 24, 1938 in Ross County, to Leroy and Sarah M. Payne Bivens. She was a long time member at the Hickory Lane Church of Christ in Washington CH, and had also worked as a teacher’s assistant at the Rose Avenue Elementary School. Shelven enjoyed cooking, collecting bells, listening to country music, and spending time with her family.
Shelven was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cary E. Butcher, whom she married on November 30, 1962; infant daughter, Kimberly Sue Butcher, sister, Ruth E. Bivens, sister-in-laws, Jane Jarrett, Judy Butcher, Freeda (Donald) Edwards, and Ludene (Carl) Haines, and brother-in-laws, Robert Paul, Steve Knisley, Isaac Butcher, Raymond Butcher Sr., Charles Butcher, and Denver Mullikin.
Survivors include her children, Donald E. Butcher, Ronald L. (Carolyn) Butcher, and Kellie Jo Butcher; grandson, Levi Butcher; step-grandson, Drew (Jasmine) Horvath of California; step-granddaughter, Jessica Arnett; great-granddaughter, Jade Horvath; siblings, Gertrude Paul, David (Carol) Bivens, Mae (John) Cook, Shirley Jo (Gary) Goddard, and Elsie Knisley; sister-in-laws, Sib Yahn, Mary (David) Beoddy, and Clarajean Mullikin. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Dodds officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
