Lady Panthers Advance To The Elite Eight

It wasn't pretty but the Miami Trace Lady Panthers got the job done Tuesday night in the Division II Regional Semi Finals with a 33-28 victory over the New Philadelphia Quakers.

Neither team shot well on the night but Miami Trace was able to hold the lead through two and half quarters. It took over three minutes for either team to put the ball in the basket to start the third quarter but Miami Trace was able to score the first five points before the Quakers stormed back to close out the third on an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the night 23-20. The Panthers then outscored New Philadelphia 13-5 in the fourth and Tanner Bryant knocked down three out of four free throw attempts on back to back technical fouls against the Quakers with 16 seconds remaining to seal the deal.

Miami Trace (23-4) shot 28% going 11-39 from the field including 1-9 from beyond the arc. They were 9-20 from the free throw line for 45%, committed 17 turnovers and pulled down 27 rebounds, 8 of which were offensive. Tanner Bryant led the Panthers in scoring with 18 points.

New Philadelphia (21-5) was held to 8-42 shooting for 19%, they were 4-20 from deep and made 9-13 free throws, committed 18 turnovers and finished with 18 rebounds.

Miami Trace now moves on to face Dresden Tri-Valley this Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the Division II Regional Championship. Coverage on Fayette County's Oldies Station, Oldies 1250 at 7:15 p.m.
