Paul Edwin Hurtt, 83, of New Holland, Ohio, died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 5:05 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington Court House where he had been a resident since April 2, 2016.
Paul was born September 17, 1933, in Pickaway County, Ohio to Albert Harold and Nellie Mae Fetty Hurtt. He was a 1951 graduate of New Holland High School and lived most of his life in the New Holland community.
He was a crane operator at Armco from 1955 until his retirement in 2003.
Paul was a member of the New Holland Church of Christ; New Holland Lodge F. & A.M. #392 and Fayette Aerie #423 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Naval Mine Warfare Association and had been a member of the former ARCH Post #477 of the American Legion in New Holland. He was a 39-year member of the Ohio Highway Patrol Auxiliary of which he was a lieutenant.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Cottrill.
Paul is survived by his wife, the former Betty Ann Speakman whom he married June 15,1958; two sons, Mark Hurtt and his husband, Todd Koger of Columbus and Brian Hurtt and his partner, Bradley Plaster of Akron; a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and John Womack of Washington Court House; three grandchildren, Blythe, Megan and Mallory Oty and six great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with Jeff Davis, chaplain for Hospice of Fayette County, officiating. Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home in New Holland Saturday from 12 noon until time of the service.
