Russell Edward Bailey, 92, joined his Lord in Heaven on Sunday,
February 26, 2017. He had been a resident of the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio for the past few years. He was cared for and loved by the
incredible staff of the home and made many friends during those years.
Russell was born to Tessie and Floyd Bailey in Blue Creek, Ohio on
September 5, 1924. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Sophie and
Foster Owens. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Park and his brother, Bob Bailey. He lived the majority of his life in Adams County, Ohio and loved it there.
Russell is survived by his daughter, Penny Volk and son-in-law Roger Volk; grandchildren, Carrie Volk, Caryn Palmgren (Mark) and Randy Volk (Nicky); seven great grandchildren, as well as several wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews. Russell was also fortunate to have had many loyal friends and neighbors over the years.
Russell was a lifelong member of Moore's Chapel Methodist Church in Blue Creek, and was devoted to his faith and church. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of VFW Walter Harris Post #3400. Russell was retired from the construction industry where he worked as an operating engineer. He also farmed for many years of his life.
At Russell's request, a graveside service will be held at Copas Cemetery near Blue Creek, Ohio on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 12 pm. Chaplain Vernon Green of Stein Hospice will offer the service. A military service will be conducted by the Adams County Honor Guard.
