The Miami Trace Lady Panthers captured the Division II Sectional Championship Saturday afternoon with a 57-35 victory of the Unioto Lady Shermans.
It was a back and forth game to start as the Shermans were able feed the ball inside to their 5'10 sophomore forward Jocie Fisher, who had 13 first half points. The Panthers took a 12-11 lead into the second quarter. In the second the Panthers put their foot on the gas and turned up the intensity on defense forcing the Shermans to make 10 turnovers. The Panthers Tanner Bryant started to take over the game in the second as she finished the half with 15 points and the Panthers held a 31-21 lead.
Miami Trace started the third quarter going on an 18-2 run and outscored the Shermans 20-7 to take a 51-28 lead into the final period. Unioto outscored the Panthers in the fourth but it was too little too late as Miami Trace captured the Division II Sectional Title 57-35.
Unioto was just 12-23 shooting on the night for 36%. They committed 21 turnovers and had 18 rebounds. They were led in scoring by Jocie Fisher's 17 points, 13 of which came in the first half. They finish the season at 17-7.
Miami Trace shot 23-55 for 41%, they committed 11 turnovers and pulled down 19 rebounds. They were led in scoring by Tanner Bryant's 25 points, Cassidy Lovett and Shaylee McDonald each added 10.
Miami Trace (19-4) now moves on to the District Tournament next Thursday night at Southeastern High School in Ross County to face Sheridan. Game time is 8 p.m. with a 7:50 broadcast start on Buckeye Country 105.5FM/iHeartRadio.
