Jeanne Carolyn Mickle, 83, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 2:21 p.m. at Signature HealthCARE of Fayette County where she had been a resident since March 2016.
Mrs. Mickle was born September 3, 1933, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Jacob L. and Lavonne DeVault Miller and was a 1951 graduate of Washington High School. She moved to DeSoto County, Florida in 1972, and resided in the South for the next 25 years.
She began her career in communications with WCHO Radio and the Record-Herald and was also a journalist and photographer for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Mrs. Mickle was the author of several books, and most recently wrote a column for the Record-Herald entitled "Yesterdays."
Mrs. Mickle served on the boards of trustees of the DeSoto County Chamber of Commerce, the DeSoto County Library, and was a founding member of the Desoto County Friends of the Library. She was very active in animal rights issues and served on the board of trustees of the DeSoto County Humane Society. She served four years as chapter chairman of the DeSoto County Red Cross and was a fund-raiser for the chapter. She was an accomplished pianist and performed in many churches and local stage productions. She was a member of the former First Christian Church in Washington Court House.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Herschel C. Mickle, Jr. on December 12, 2000; by her parents; a brother, James Miller and two sisters, Norma Budnek and Lois Fabian.
Mrs. Mickle is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Jimmie Jackson of Columbus, Ohio and Kerry and Mark Espenschied of Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a niece, Kathi Waldeck of Columbus and two nephews, Michael Budnek of Columbus and Jeffrey Miller of Okanogan, Washington.
The funeral will be Monday, February 20, 2017; at 12:00 Noon at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Jeff Davis, chaplain for Hospice of Fayette County, officiating. Private burial will be in the Bloomingburg Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
