A Bell Ringing for the First Fallen Female Police Officer in 150 years

Memorial Day weekend this year is even more painful for a region, freshly reminded of the sacrifice made by first responders with the loss of, a “smart, athletic, energetic and, not at quite four years on the job, was starting to show that she had all the potential to be an excellent officer and one of the leaders of this organization in the future.” Baltimore County Chief of Police Terrence Sheridan praised fallen Officer Amy Caprio as “the type of officer that you want to hire.”

Her obituary lists family of Fallen Officer Amy Sorrells Caprio, age 29, of Fallston, Maryland. She passed away on Monday May 21, 2018.  Amy was born May 27, 1988 in Towson, MD to Debbie Byus Sorrells and Garry Sorrells. Amy is survived by her spouse, Tim Caprio; father Garry Sorrells and mother Debbie Byus Sorrells; sister Kristin Fitch and sister Laura Sorrells. She is also survived by loving nephews Conor and Garrett Fitch, Carter Caprio, Skyler Page her beloved dog "Doodle" and also her Police brothers and sisters, dear friends and family.

Visitation for Amy will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Rd, Nottingham, MD 21236. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mountain Christian Church - New Life Center, 1802 Mountain Road, Joppa, MD 21085. A committal service to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Amy's memory may be made to the Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston, MD 21047, www.HarfordShelter.org; and to the Police Assistance Relief (PAR Fund), FOP Lodge 4, 9304 Harford Road, Baltimore, Maryland US.
