Hillsboro Indians Defeat Once-Beaten Jackson Ironmen

Coming off a twenty point win over county rival McClain on Tuesday night, the Hillsboro Indians continued their week of hugely important games by hosting the once-beaten Jackson Ironmen.

The first meeting between the top two teams in the FAC took place six weeks ago --- with Jackson upending HHS 65 -- 53. However, in meeting number two, a highly-motivated Hillsboro took care of business and defeated the Ironmen 73 -- 64.

From the beginning, it was apparent that nothing was going to be easy for the Indians. Despite a quick start, Hillsboro went cold for most of the first quarter and wound up trailing at the end of the period 23 -- 13. In fact, over the course of the opening frame and into the second stanza the Ironmen went on a 25 -- 8 run.

However, HHS hit 5 three's in the second quarter and managed to outscore JHS 20 -- 14 and trail by four at the halftime break (37 -- 33). It was the third period that proved to be the difference in the game --- Hillsboro went on a 9 -- 0 run that captured the lead and they never gave it back (although, to Jackson's credit, the Ironmen did put a scare into Hillsboro in the fourth quarter getting to within one point).

Ryan Scott and Lawton Parry were fantastic from long range most of the evening and led the Indians' charge with 24 and 23 points respectively. For their overall clutch shooting they were named the WSRW "co-players of the game."

The victory was Hillsboro's sixth consecutive win and tenth overall (against two defeats). According to the schedule and Coach Miles Burton the week's business is not finished yet. There is another game to be played Saturday night when the Indians play the final game of an incredible troika of games. They will host the Unioto Shermans (who are having an excellent season themselves).

The final question is: can Hillsboro pull off yet another remarkable win? The answer will be determined Saturday night!
