The Blue Lions defense shined bright Friday night at Gardner Park, pitching a shut out in their 26-0 victory over the Blanchers Wildcats.
Washington got the scoring started early as Trevaughn Jackson, a freshman, on his very first play on as a member of the Blue Lion squad took the opening kick off 91 yards to the house to give Washington an early 6-0 lead. That was about all the excitement the first half had as neither team could get their offense moving. Washington was able to score at the end of the second quarter as Ethan Rogers-Wright found Jamie McCane on a 33 yard touchdown pass, the 2-point conversion was good and the Blue Lions went into the locker room up 14-0.
The first half was marred by turnovers as Rogers-Wright threw three interceptions in his first start under center for Washington. Rogers-Wright finished the half throwing 6-10 for 60 yards and a TD, and had 45 yards on the ground to account for 107 total first half yards.
The Blue Lion defense was on point all night giving up a few yards here and there but never letting Blanchester get any momentum on the offensive side of the ball. In the first half Blanchester had 52 total yards, 51 on the ground and they committed two turnovers, one an interception by Trevaughn Jackson.
The third quarter neither team again was able to get anything offensively, as both Washington Court House and Blanchester traded turnovers. But in the fourth Rogers-Wright found his groove and tossed two touchdown passes, one to Senior Jerome Mack from 20 yards out which capped a 10 play 54 yard drive that took 2:57 off the clock, the Blue Lions longest drive of the night. Then with just over four minutes left in the game Eli Lynch caught a shuffle pass and took it three yards for a TD, to end the scoring and secure Washington Court House's 26-0 victory.
On the night the Blue Lions had 256 total yards. Rogers-Wright was 14-22 for 121 yards with two TD's but had four interceptions. Rushing the Blue Lions totaled 135 yards behind 91 yards from Senior Jamie McCane on 21 carries. They committed 7 penalties for 65 yards and had 12 first downs.
Blanchester finished with just 77 total yards, 73 came on the ground from running back James Peters.
Washington Court House moves on to play Circleville next week.
