The Highland County Ag Society held a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new Highland District Hospital Livestock Building with the Highland County Chamber of Commerce and members of the community on Saturday, August 26, 2023. The new HDH Livestock Building is located at the Highland County Fairgrounds and will house swine, sheep, and goats during the Highland County Fair which is held annually during the first week of September. The building will also be used throughout the year for other events and activities hosted by the Highland County Fairgrounds.
“The fairboard is extremely pleased with the community support both large and small for youth in agriculture,” said Mark Baldwin, Highland County Agricultural Society’s Board of Directors President. “The Highland District Hospital Livestock Building is replacing buildings that were built by volunteers 70 years ago. We can only hope that this building lasts another 70 years serving the community.”
Funding for this project came from a variety of sources including the Highland County Board of Commissioners utilization of the American Rescue Plan Act Funds for Highland County, a previous State Capital budget request, the Highland County Agricultural Society, and various community businesses.
“As the President and CEO of Highland District Hospital we are excited to partner with the Highland County Agricultural Society, another longstanding and serving institution, on such a historic community project,” said Tim Parry, President and CEO of Highland District Hospital. “This sponsorship is the beginning of a reinvigorated commitment from our organization to help meet the needs of our community. We are honored to be a part of it.”
Parry, along with many of Highland District Hospital’s staff and Board of Governors, were on hand to help celebrate the building dedication, naming ceremony and their contribution to the project.
The Highland County Fair kicks off on Sunday, September 3, 2023, and runs through Saturday, September 9, 2023. For a complete list of events and activities visit www.highlandcountyfair.org.
