Madison County Man Charged with Making Online Threats

A federal grand jury is charging a Madison County area man with making online threats against a group that works to provide safe access to abortion.

Court records released on Tuesday show James David Hampton, 40, was charged with ten counts of transmitting threats via interstate communication.

Acting U.S. Attorney Vipal Patel said in August 2020, Hampton made death threats to a Facebook page run by a U.K.-based abortion support group and individuals in England, Canada, and parts of Europe.

If found guilty, each count carries a maximum five-year prison sentence.
