Big Second Half Lifts Fairland Past Adena In District Final

The Adena Warriors seemed to be in control of their Division 3 district final against Fairland before things quickly turned sour in the third quarter as the Dragons rallied for a 56-48 title win at Ironton High School.

The Warriors stormed out to a 7-2 start, held their biggest lead at 14-6, then 26-19 at halftime as they were shooting 61% from the field. But that turned in the opposite direction in the third quarter, as Fairland outscored Adena 15-6 for a 34-32 lead after three periods. Fairland built as much as a 12 point lead in the fourth and held off Adena's late rally after they got to within 52-46.

(23-3) Adena shot 19/35 for the game- including 5/11 from the arc and added 5/7 from the foul line, while (20-4) Fairland shot 23/44 for 52%- including 3/11 from the arc and 7/8 at the foul line.

Adena committed 8 turnovers to 6 for Fairland, with the Dragons edging the Warriors 19-18 in rebounding.

Warriors' seniors Logan Bennett and Preston Sykes led the scoring with 21 and 18 points respectively, followed by Dillon McDonald with 5 and 2 from Jarrett Garrison.

Fairland's 6'4 senior post-player Jacob Polcyn led their offense with 21 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Arden Porter had 18 points, 11 from Clayton Thomas and 6 from Gavin Hunt.

Adena concludes their season as SVC Champ and district runner-up.
