Elton John Announces Career-Spanning 'Jewel Box' Rarities Collection Set

Elton John has announced a new collection, titled Jewel Box.

The Rocket Man made the news official on Twitter early Thursday morning (September 16), and accompanied the announcement by unveiling his previously-unreleased 1969 track, “Sing Me No Sad Songs.”

The box set, arriving on November 13, will explore Elton’s extensive back catalog, including covers, deep cuts, and rarities from the formative years of the legendary singer and his longtime music partner, Bernie Taupin. In addition to an 8-cd box set housed in a stunning hardcover book spanning 30 years of Elton’s music gems and B-sides, the collection also includes 148 songs recorded between 1965 and 2019, track-by-track commentary and extensive notes on deep cuts and 60 previously unreleased songs from 1965-1971.

“To delve back through every period of my career in such detail for Jewel Box has been an absolute pleasure. Hearing these long lost tracks again, I find it hard to comprehend just how prolific Bernie and I were during the early days,” Elton shared in a statement. “The songs just poured out of us and the band were just unbelievable in the studio. I always want to push forward with everything I do and look to the future, but having time during lockdown to take stock and pull these moments from my memory from each era has been a joy.”

“As a devout record collector myself, this project has really excited me and I could not be happier with the level of craft involved in such a carefully curated, lovingly constructed boxset,” he continued. “I’m sure my fans will enjoy it as much as I have.”
