Suspicious Device on Chillicothe's Dayton Street Handled by Bomb Squad

An eviction notice being served on a Dayton Street apartment Tuesday morning ended up getting Chillicothe Police and Fire Departments involved when a court officer found what appeared to be a homemade explosive device.

Chillicothe Police Captain Tim Gay says Chillicothe Municipal Court Officers went to 999 Dayton Street Apartment C to execute an eviction.

Inside the apartment they located a suspicious device which appeared to look like a pipe bomb.

Chillicothe Police Officers responded along with the Chillicothe Fire Department, where neighboring homes were evacuated for safety.

The Columbus Fire Department Bomb Squad was called to assist and were able to render the device safe.

The residents from Apt. C have not been located at this time to be interviewed and the investigation is ongoing.

Nobody was injured and there were no threats made.
