West Jefferson Mars Petcare Warehouse Will Remain Open

A West Jefferson distribution center won’t be closing after all, and the 185 employees at the warehouse will keep their jobs.

.

A notice filed with the state last week said the warehouse would shut down and the workers’ jobs would be eliminated beginning March 20th. The Columbus Dispatch reported the closing on its website Monday and in print editions Tuesday. But, pet-care company Mars Petcare, which uses the warehouse, said in a statement that it will remain open.

.

The notice was filed with the state because Mars is switching to another logistics company to operate the warehouse, the company said.

.

“The letter dated January 15, 2020, provided by XPO Logistics stating that the Mars Petcare distribution center in West Jefferson, Ohio will close is incorrect. This facility will continue to operate,” the statement said.

.

“Mars Petcare has made the decision to terminate the relationship with XPO Logistics and move to a new partner, Kane Logistics, effective March 2020. As part of the transition, Kane’s plan is for all current employees to be extended the opportunity for continued employment.”
