Lady Blue Lions Can't Overcome Poor Shooting Night in Loss To Chillicothe

Poor shooting leads to FAC loss for the Washington Lady Lions Wednesday night at Chillicothe High School as they fell to the Lady Cavaliers 54-47.

The first half of the game was payed nearly even with Chillicothe leading 12-13 after the first quarter and 25-23 going into the half. Neither team shot the ball well in the first half but both teams were tough of defense. Chillicothe defenders were on Blue Lion Senior Shawna Conger all night whether on or off the ball. Conger made two shots in the first half and knocked down two free throws to go to the locker room with 7 points. Chillicothe Senior Shawnice Smith paced the Lady Cavs in the first half with 11 points.

Washington Shot just 27% making 8 of their 29 attempts, they were 1-6 from behind the arc, had 8 rebounds and 9 turnovers in the first half. Chillicothe didn't shoot much better they were 9-23 for 33%, 2-6 from behind the arc, had 12 rebounds and 10 turnovers.

The Lady Lions struggled through the 3rd and into the 4th quarters. Washington didn't score their first points of the second half until the 2:25 mark of the third quarter, they were outscored in the 3rd 10-3 to trail 35-26 leading into the final quarter. It took nearly four minutes into the final period before Washington would score again and they would find themselves down by 19 points at one point when they trailed 47-28. Washington was able to stay in the game thanks to their free throw shooting, the Lady Lions were 14-16 from the line in the second half, Shawna scored all 9 of her 2nd half points from the line. But it wasn't enough as Shawnice Smith and the Lady Cavs were able to hang on for the victory.

Chillicothe 2-4 (2-1) was led in scoring by Shawnice Smith who had a game high 21 points, her size and athletic ability made her a tough match-up. Freshman Jacey Harding had a big night starting for injured Senior Makenzie Greene, Harding played point guard and finished with 11 points, Senior Julia Hall knocked down three 3 point shots for 9 points. The Lady Cavs shot 18-42 for 43% including 5-10 from behind the arc. They had 23 rebounds, 21 turnovers and shot 53% from the charity stripe.

Washington 3-2 (1-2) was led in scoring by Shawna Conger's 16 points and Sophomore Jeleeya Tyree-Smith scored 10. For the night they shot 12-61 for 19% including 3-16 from behind the arc, they pulled down 21 rebounds had 20 turnovers but shot great from the Line 18-21 for 86%.
