US 23 Crash North of Chillicothe Turns Fatal

A Circleville woman lost her life in a fiery three vehicle crash on U.S. Route 23 north of Chillicothe, early Wednesday afternoon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to the scene at approximately 12:24pm, after a southbound Chevy Sonic, driven by 61-year-old Susan Frazier of Circleville, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US 23 and sideswiped a northbound Mercedes-Benz, driven by 46-year-old Candice Cain of University Park, Illinois. Cain's vehicle was also occupied by 45-year-old Athena Barnes of Chicago Heights, Illinois and 18-year-old Moussa Leye of University Park, Illinois.

Ms. Frazier’s vehicle continued traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a Toyota 4-Runner, driven by 49-year-old Thomas Laciano of Concord North Carolina. 46-year-old Allison Laciano along with 4 juveniles were also traveling in the Toyota.

The Frazier and Laciano vehicles came to rest in the median where Frazier’s vehicle became engulfed in fire.

Ms. Frazier was transported to the Adena Regional Medical Center, by Union Township EMS, where she died from her injuries. Mr. Laciano, Mrs. Laciano and the 4 juveniles were transported to the Adena Regional Medical Center by Green Township EMS, with non-life threatening injuries. Mrs. Laciano was later transported to the Grant Medical Center and three of the juveniles were transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for additional treatment. Ms. Cain, Ms. Barnes and Mr. Leye were released from the scene.

The northbound lanes of U.S. Route 23 were rerouted for approximately 90 minutes across State Route 207 during the investigation.

There was also a road closure today along State Route 32 in Jackson County. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office reported that closure to have been put into effect at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday due to fallen power lines. The route was reopened at approximately 3:45 p.m.
