Blue Lion Defense Shines in Shut-Out Win

The Washington Court House Blue Lion Defense pitched their second shut out of the season with a 33-0 victory over Ponitz Career Technical school Friday night at Gardner Park.

.

Both teams had a hard time getting any offense going in the first half with Ponitz fumbling the ball on their first possession and then fumbling the punt after Washington went three and out on their first possession but the Blue Lions couldn't capitalize on the Golden Panther mistake and we ended the first quarter tied at zero.

.

Ponitz was blitzing every single play and the Blue Lions had a hard time in the first half picking up the blitz but they were finally able to get some points on the board just 1:23 into the second quarter when Jerome Mack took a quarterback keeper 38 yards to the end zone for the first score of the game. Coach Williamson said "Mack had the hot hand tonight, so we decided to go with him from the Wildcat position". Mack's run was the culmination of a 5 play 52 yard drive that took 1:26 off the clock. Less than four minutes later the Blue Lions would make it 13-0 when Jamie McCane rushed in from 1 yard out finishing off a 5 play 44 yard drive. The teams would go into the locker with Washington up 13-0.

.

Washington had 175 total yards in the first half, 127 on the ground. Ponitz had 132 total yard in the half, 101 coming from running back Shavonte McGriff who had a 52 yard run on a fake punt then a run of 70 yards on a bobbled snap punt attempt.

.

The Blue Lions scored once in the third quarter on a 7 play 56 yard drive that took 2:23 off the clock when Mack found Calum Brown in the end zone on a 9 yard pass, PAT was no good, 20-0 WCH. Then halfway through the 4th quarter the Blue Lions found pay dirt again when Chase Sluder ran the ball in from 2 yards out capping an 8 play 50 yard drive. They then scored again with 1:05 left in the game when AJ Dallmayer ran the ball in from 16 yards out to put the Blue Lions up and end the game with a score of 33-0.

.

On the night Washington had 285 yards rushing led by Mack's 98 yards, McCane had 50 yards and Eli Lynch finished with 61 yards on the ground. Ethan Rogers-Wright finished 6-14 passing for 48 yards while Mack was 2-9 for 17 yards. For the night the Blue Lions had 350 total yards.
