Recent Hillsboro Building Collapse Discussed at Monday Council Meeting

The recent collapse of a historic building in uptown Hillsboro was a topic at Monday nights city council meeting.

.

Mayor Drew Hastings said things are now in the hands of the building owner and the property owner on the east side of the collapsed building, who has to sign-off on a "hold harmless" agreement, in order for the rest of the collapsed building to be taken down. The adjacent building owner has given their legal counsel the form, to look over.

.

Hastings spoke with iHeart Media News Reporter Harry Wright after the meeting, where he said the building's collapse highlights how the City of Hillsboro does need building codes, even though some people in the community have opposed it.

.

There were no reports of injuries in last week's building collapse.
