A Chillicothe woman has been indicted on felony charges of theft and escape, and a Chillicothe man faces a charge of receiving stolen property following Friday's session of Ross County Grand Jury.

-

According to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, Stephanie Williams, 44, of Chillicothe, has been indicted on single counts of fifth-degree felony theft, and 5th degree felony escape.

-

The charges against Ms. Williams come from April 8th when Chillicothe Police were dispatched to a branch of the Chillicothe Ross County Public Library in regard to a theft.

-

Surveillance footage from the scene showed Ms.Williams removing items from a library employee's purse. While appearing in Chillicothe Municipal Court on a separate charge, from another incident, Williams was served with a warrant for the theft.

-

While in transport to the county jail, Ms. Williams was able to reach outside of the police cruiser window and open her rear door. She then fled from the vehicle but was quickly apprehended.

-

Ms. Williams was able to accomplish the escape because officers were unable to cuff her hands behind her back due to a surgery Ms. Williams had recently undergone.

-

If convicted Ms. Williams faces up to 12 months incarceration and a fine of $5,000.

Also indicted during Friday's Grand Jury is Levi Hurley, 18, of Chillicothe. Mr. Hurley is charged with a single fourth-degree felony count of receiving stolen property.

-

The charge against Mr. Hurley is from March 7th when he is alleged to have stolen a vehicle as it was left unattended to warm up due to the cold weather.

-

Chillicothe Police say Mr. Hurley wrecked the vehicle along Adams Avenue. He was apprehended not long after. If convicted of the charge, Mr. Hurley could receive up to 18 months in jail and a fine of $5,000.

-

A total of 36 cases were presented to the Grand Jury on Friday, with all 36 returned. Only these two were open.
