The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash which occurred approximately 2pm on Monday at the intersection of U.S. Route 62 NE & State Route 753, north of Washington Court House.

Tentative investigation indicates a semi tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 62 NE and approached the intersection of State Route 753. The operator, 50-year-old Richard Pierson of Wilmington, failed to yield on a red traffic signal and collided with a westbound SUV. The resulting collision cause both vehicles to leave the roadway and come to rest in the ditch.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 40-year-old Allen Ursell, of Greenfield. Ursell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner.

Passengers in Ursell’s vehicle, 40-year-old Shaun Rooker of Washington Court House, and 33-year-old Alesha Bennett of Milledgeville, Ohio were critically injured in the crash and transported to area trauma centers for medical treatment. Members of the Washington Fire Department performed the extrication of the patients in the Ursell vehicle and also provided haz-mat assistance due to a large amount of fluids on the roadway.
