Blue Lions Fall to Fairfield Union in D-2 Boys District Semi

A strong first half from Fairfield Union was enough to end the Blue Lion Boys season Thursday night at the Convo in Athens in the Boys Division II Disctrict Semi's.

The Falcons came out on fire knocking down 6 of their first 12 shots in the first quarter including 2-3 from behind the arc to take a 15-9 lead, they then came out on a 6-2 run to start the second quarter on pace to outscore the Blue Lions 14-8 for the quarter and take a 29-17 lead into the half. Fairfield Union's Chase Poston led the way in the first half scoring 15 of his 17 points and knocking down three 3-point shots, Houston Harrah a 6'5 Junior had 9 points in the half.

The Blue Lions attempted nine 3-point shots in the half but only knocked down one. They were 8-23 shooting for 35%. Fairfield Union shot 52% for the half on 12-23 shooting including 4-6 from three.

The second half was played pretty even with Washington outscoring the Falcons 8-6 in the third and the Falcons outscoring Washington 15-14 in the fourth but the Blue Lions couldn't get closer than a four point deficit as time expired on their season.

The Blue Lions were led on the night by Evan Upthegrove's 12 points, Blaise Tayese had 11, Richie Burns hit two 3-point shots in the second half to finish with 6 points, Garrit Leisure had 5 and Omar Porter ended with 3 points and Drew Moats had 2. They shot just 30% on the night on 17-47 shooting and made 5-20 from downtown for 25%, they made just 1-4 free throws and had 11 turnovers. Washington's season comes to a close with an overall record of 15-9.

Fairfield Union (15-8) was led by Chase Poston's 17 points, 15 in the first half and Houston Harrah's 13, 9 in the first half. They sho 44% on the night on 19-43 shooting and made 4-11 from three. They were 8-12 from the free throw line and also committed 11 turnovers.

Fairfield Union now moves on to the District Championship game against Zane Trace on Sunday, March 10th from the Convocation Center at Ohio University.
