Lady Blue Lions Advance To District Championship

The Lady Lions punched their ticket to the Division II District Championship Thursday night with a 60-49 victory over Meigs 60-49 to advance to play Vinton County this Thursday.

Washington Court House started the game on a 6-2 run and eventually outscored Meigs 21-6 in the first period behind 11 points from Senior Hannah Haithcock. Haithcock picked up her second foul early in the second period and had to take a seat on the bench and Meigs responded with her on the bench. Megis went on a 10-5 run the second quarter and outscored the Blue Lions 13-10 but still trailed by 12 at the half 31-19.

Meigs outscored Washington again in the third period 14-11 and were able to pull the game within two points at one point of the second half until Halli Wall knocked down five straight points and Haithcock hit two free throws to extend the lead back to 9 and the Lady Lions never looked back. They led 42-33 after the third and eventually held on the for the 11 point win, 60-49.

Meigs had their season end with an overall record of 15-9. They were led in scoring by Kassidy Betzing's 15 points, she was the only Marauder in double figures. They shot 16-58 from the field for 28%, had 21 turnovers and pulled down 23 rebounds.

Washington was led by Hannah Haithcock who had a game high 22 points, Rayana Burns added 14, Tabby Woods finished with 7, Shawna Conger had 6, Bre Taylor had 4 and Kassidy Hines had 2. They shot 20-55 for 36% committed 14 turnovers, pulled down 39 rebounds and were 18-23 from the charity stripe.

The Blue Lions (19-5) advance to play Vinton County Thursday in the Girls Division II District Championship at 7 p.m. from Southeastern High School. Buckeye County 105.5FM/iHeartRadio air time will be 6:45 p.m.
