Hillsboro Boys Advance To Sectional Championship

Hillsboro advances to the Division II Sectional Championship and Miami Trace see's their season come to a close Tuesday night at Southeastern High school.
The Panthers jumped out on Hillsboro 5-0 to start the game as it took the Indians nearly three minutes to score their first point. Ryan Scott knocked two free throws and it was in from there. Hillsboro went on a 15-5 run to close out the first and used shutdown defense to force Miami Trace to commit 15 first half turnovers that equaled 16 points off turnovers for the Indians. Hillsboro outscored the Panthers 13-8 in the second quarter to lead 28-18 at the half.
Scott led the way for Hillsboro in the first with 9 points. Miami Trace didn't shoot too bad for the half going 6-15 for 43% including 3-7 from beyond the arc for 43% but committed those 15 turnovers. Hillsboro shot 38% for the half on 11-29 shooting and knocked down 4-14 three point shots.
The Panthers were held scoreless through the first four minutes of the third quarter and shot only 23% to trail 40-27 at the end of the quarter as Hillsboro outscored them 12-9. The final frame saw the teams play each other near even as Trace won the quarter scoring battle for the only quarter of the night 11-9 as both teams went to their bench to close out the game.
For the night Hillsboro forced Miami Trace into 23 turnovers and turned those turnovers into 20 points. They finished the night shooting 41% on 19-46 shooting and knocked down 5-19 three point shots. They committed just 13 total turnovers. Hillsboro was led in scoring by a pair of Seniors, Ethan Watson and Mason Swayne each had 13 points while sophomore Ryan Scott chipped in 11. Hillsboro (9-14)now advances to play The number one seed Zane Trace on Saturday at 7 p.m. For the Sectional crown. WSRW 101.5FM/AM 1590 airtime will be 6:45 p.m
Miami Trace was led on the night by Trevor Barker's 12 points and Austin added 10. They shot 32% on 13-41 shooting and knocked down 4-18 three's. They committed 23 turnovers and scored 10 points off Hillsboro turnovers. Miami Trace finishes the year 3-20.
