Miami Trace Opens New Gym With A Win

The Miami Trace Panthers opened up their new gym Tuesday night with a huge victory in front of a packed house, 43-38 over the Vinton County Vikings.

The game was played even through the first three quarters with neither team holding more than a seven point lead. Miami Trace led after the first quarter 10-9 with each team shooting 45%. The second quarter things slowed down a bit but the defense picked up, each team ended the half with multiple turnovers, 10 for Miami Trace and 9 for Vinton County but the Panthers held on to a two point lead 18-16 at the half.

Miami Trace shot 8-19 in the first half for 43%, but were just 1-5 from behind the arc for 20% and they only attempted two free throws and made one. Vinton County shot 33% for the half on 6-18 shooting and were 2-7 from beyond the arc for 29%, they were 2-2 from the free throw line. Each team had six points off turnovers.

The Third Quarter was much like the first two with neither holding more than a 5 point lead, The Panthers shot 40% in the quarter while the Vikings shot 50% and they cut the Panther lead to just 1 at 30-29. Vinton County took their first lead in the game at the 6 minute mark of the quarter 31-30 and from there it was back and forth until the Panthers were able to pull away down the stretch, knocking down a few free throws to bring home the victory, just their second of the season 43-38.

On the night Miami Trace (2-18) shot 41% on 17-41 shooting, committed 17 turnovers and had 17 points off turnovers. They were led in scoring by senior Austin Brown's 12 points and sophomore Dylan Bernard had 11. Miami Trace next plays at home against Washington Court House this Saturday at 6 p.m. on Buckeye Country 105.5FM/iHeartRadio.

Vinton County (8-9) was led in scoring by Eli Griffith who had 12 points, 10 in the second half and 10 points from Lance Montgomery. They shot 59% from the field on 16-27 shooting and were 4-16 from behind the arc, they committed 17 turnovers and had 11 points off turnovers.
