DOE Commits $115 Million to Piketon Plant

(24/7 News) -- The U.S. Department of Energy intends to invest $115-million into the former Gasseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon over the next three years.

The DOE's decision has yet to be made final, but if approved, the funding could potentially allow for the creation of 60 new jobs with workers producing a cascade of 16 centrifuges at the former plant. The centrifuges would demonstrate the production of a type of enriched uranium used as a fuel source for advanced nuclear reactors.

U.S. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio calls the DOE's investment "another milestone in the effort to get Piketon back up and running, doing the work that is so important to our country".
